A Verity calculator solves the dissection puzzle in the Verity encounter of the Salvation's Edge raid in Destiny 2. Each outside statue must end up holding the 3D shape made of the two 2D shapes its inside statue does not hold. A circle statue needs a prism, a square statue needs a cone and a triangle statue needs a cylinder.

How to Use the Verity Calculator
- Enter the inside callout: the 2D shape each inside statue holds, read left to right while facing the projector wall.
- Enter the outside shapes: the 3D shape each of the three outside statues holds right now, in the same left-to-right order.
- Follow the swap plan. For each dissection, pick up the first shape and dissect the first statue, then pick up the second shape and dissect the second statue.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Dissections needed | The fewest two-statue swaps that finish the puzzle: 0, 1, 2 or 3. |
| Statue targets | The 3D shape each outside statue must hold at the end, with the 2D shape it must not contain. |
| Dissection 1 to 3 | Which shape to dunk on which statue, in order. "Not needed" means the puzzle is already done. |
| Swap plan | The same steps written out, showing how each statue's 3D shape changes after each dissection. |
What Is the Verity Encounter?
Verity is the fourth encounter of Salvation's Edge, the Destiny 2 raid released on June 7, 2024 with The Final Shape expansion and set inside the Witness's monolith. The fireteam of six splits at random: three players are pulled into solo rooms (the inside team) and three stay together outside. A wipe timer called Imminent End runs for about three and a half minutes, according to Destinypedia.
Destinypedia sums up the goal simply: make sure the Guardians do not have the shape their statues are holding on the inside. Inside players trade 2D shapes between their rooms. Outside players fix the 3D shapes that the statues hold. This calculator solves the outside part, which is the logic puzzle most teams call "dissection". For other game tools, see the arena points calculator.
How Does the Verity Solver Work?
The solver applies two rules from the encounter, then searches every possible swap for the shortest plan.
Target 3D shape = the two 2D shapes NOT held by the matching inside statue- Shape building: every 3D shape is two 2D shapes. Sphere = circle + circle, cube = square + square, pyramid = triangle + triangle, cylinder = circle + square, cone = circle + triangle and prism = square + triangle.
- Targets: a circle inside statue needs a prism (square + triangle), a square statue needs a cone (circle + triangle) and a triangle statue needs a cylinder (circle + square).
- Dissection: dunking shape X on statue A and shape Y on statue B swaps them. Statue A loses X and gains Y, and statue B loses Y and gains X. Destinypedia gives the example: a square into a cylinder and a triangle into a prism turn them into a cone and a cube.
- Search: the tool tests every swap, then every pair of swaps and so on, and stops at the first plan that reaches all three targets.
Because a swap only moves shapes around, the outside statues always hold two circles, two squares and two triangles in total. The tool uses that fact to catch misreads.
Verity Example: Triangle, Circle, Square
This example comes from Destinypedia. The inside callout is triangle, circle, square. Outside, the statues hold a cone, a cylinder and a prism.
- Targets: left (triangle) needs a cylinder, middle (circle) needs a prism, right (square) needs a cone.
- Dissection 1: dunk a triangle on the left cone and a circle on the middle cylinder. The left statue becomes a sphere and the middle becomes a prism.
- Dissection 2: dunk a circle on the left sphere and a square on the right prism. The left statue becomes a cylinder and the right becomes a cone.
The left statue passes through a sphere on the way, which is fine: only the final shapes count. Destinypedia reaches the same end state with a different pair of swaps. Many layouts have more than one shortest plan, and any of them works.
Factors That Change the Number of Dissections
How Scrambled the Outside Shapes Are
We tested all 21 valid outside layouts for each inside callout. One is already solved, 9 need one dissection, 10 need two and 1 needs three. Two dissections is the most common case. The 21 comes from counting the ways to split two circles, two squares and two triangles into three ordered pairs, the kind of count a combination calculator handles.
Double Shapes
Spheres, cubes and pyramids hold two copies of one shape. The only three-dissection layout is when each outside statue holds a double of its own inside shape, such as a sphere for the circle statue. Destinypedia describes the same worst case.
Callout Order
The solver trusts the left-to-right order. Inside players read their statues while facing the projector wall. Outside players must read their statues in the same order, or every target shifts.
Add Pressure
Destinypedia notes that the outside team faces two Unstoppable Ogres after a dissection. Fewer dissections means fewer of those waves.
2D Shapes vs 3D Shapes in Verity
| Shape | Buff name on screen | Made from | Needed by the statue holding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Triangle | Trigon | 2D | Not a final shape |
| Square | Quadrate | 2D | Not a final shape |
| Circle | Orbicular | 2D | Not a final shape |
| Prism | Trilateral | Square + triangle | Circle |
| Cone | Conoid | Circle + triangle | Square |
| Cylinder | Cylindric | Circle + square | Triangle |
| Sphere | Spheric | Circle + circle | Never a final shape |
| Cube | Cuboid | Square + square | Never a final shape |
| Pyramid | Pyramidic | Triangle + triangle | Never a final shape |
The buff names come from Destinypedia. Spheres, cubes and pyramids are never correct at the end, because each repeats one shape and leaves another out.
When to Use the Verity Calculator
Learning the Encounter
New raiders can practise reading callouts and predicting swaps before a run. Try random layouts and check your answer against the tool.
During a Run
A second screen lets the dissection player confirm a plan in seconds while the add-clear players protect them.
Teaching a Team
Sherpas can show why a sphere or cube is never a final shape and why the outside always holds two of each 2D shape. For another rules-based game helper, try the Persona fusion calculator.
Common Verity Mistakes
1. Reading the Statues in a Different Order
Inside and outside must use the same left-to-right order. A flipped read gives wrong targets for the left and right statues.
2. Aiming for the Inside Shape
The target is the two shapes the inside statue does NOT hold. A circle statue needs a prism, never a sphere or a cylinder.
3. Dunking the Shape You Want Instead of the Shape You Remove
The shape you carry to a statue is the one that leaves it. To turn a cone into a cylinder, carry a triangle to the cone.
4. Ignoring an Impossible Read
The outside statues must hold two circles, two squares and two triangles in total. Any other count means a shape was misread.
5. Trusting Shape Names from Memory
Some published guides swap the names, calling a triangle plus a square a pyramid. Use the on-screen buff names instead: Trilateral is the prism and Pyramidic is triangle plus triangle.
6. Inside Players Holding Too Many Shapes
Destinypedia warns inside players not to pick up more than two shapes until they are ready to escape, or they may form a 3D shape that contains their own shape.
Accuracy and Limitations
The solver is exact for the rules it models: it tests every possible swap and always returns a shortest plan.
What it calculates accurately
- The target 3D shape for each outside statue.
- A plan with the fewest dissections, from 0 to 3.
- Impossible reads: repeated inside shapes and outside totals that are not two of each.
What it does not account for
- The inside team's own shape trading and ghost revives.
- Knight and Ogre spawns, and which shapes are available when.
- Changes Bungie may make to the encounter in later updates.
- Challenge or special modes with different rules.
How We Solve the Verity Puzzle
Frequently Asked Questions About the Verity Encounter
What 3D shape does a circle statue need in Verity?
A circle statue needs a prism, which is a square plus a triangle. A square statue needs a cone and a triangle statue needs a cylinder.
How many dissections does Verity take?
Verity takes at most three dissections. Most layouts need one or two, and a layout is sometimes already solved.
Why is a sphere never the right shape?
A sphere is two circles, so it misses one of the two shapes an inside player needs. Cubes and pyramids fail for the same reason.
What does a dissection actually do?
A dissection swaps one 2D shape between two statues. You dunk the shape to remove on the first statue, then the shape to remove on the second, and they trade places.
In what order should the inside team call shapes?
Inside players call their statues left to right while facing the projector wall. The outside team must read its statues in the same order.
What if the calculator says my read is impossible?
A shape was misread. The outside statues always hold two circles, two squares and two triangles in total, and the inside statues hold one of each.
What are Trigon, Quadrate and Orbicular?
They are the on-screen buff names for triangle, square and circle. Trilateral, Conoid and Cylindric are the prism, cone and cylinder.
Where do the shapes come from?
Shapes drop from Hive Knights. Inside, the knights drop the shapes shown on the projector wall; outside, killing knights gives the team access to all shapes.
Does this tool solve the inside rooms too?
No. It solves the outside dissection puzzle. Inside players follow their own trading routine and escape by holding the two shapes their statue lacks.
Is this calculator official?
No. It is a free fan-made tool. Destiny 2 and Salvation's Edge are trademarks of Bungie, Inc. This fan-made tool is not affiliated with or endorsed by Bungie.
