The X (Twitter) poll engagement calculator divides total votes by impressions and multiplies by 100 to give the vote rate. A poll with 600 votes and 9,000 impressions has a 6.67% vote rate. The tool also shows votes per follower, votes per hour, approximate votes behind each choice and the lead margin.

How to Use the X Poll Engagement Calculator
The calculator needs impressions and total votes. Choice percentages, duration, followers and other counts are optional.
- Open the poll post and copy the total votes and the percentage beside each choice. Copy impressions from the post analytics.
- Type the numbers in. Leave choices 3 and 4 blank for a two-choice poll, and enter the poll duration in hours.
- Add followers, likes, reposts and replies for the wider measures, and add your own target vote rate for a verdict.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Vote rate | Votes for every 100 impressions of the poll post. |
| Votes per 100 followers | Votes compared with the size of your audience. |
| Votes per hour of poll time | Average voting pace across the time the poll was open. |
| Leading choice and lead over second place | The top percentage, the gap to the runner-up in points, and both as approximate votes. |
| Approximate votes per choice | Total votes x each percentage. X shows rounded percentages, so the counts are close, not exact. |
| Counted engagement rate | Votes plus likes, reposts and replies, divided by impressions. |
| Votes as a share of counted engagements | How much of the reaction to the post was voting. |
| Poll set-up check | Your number of choices and duration against the limits in the X Help Center. |
What Is Poll Engagement on X?
Poll engagement on X is the reaction a poll post gets, led by votes. The core measure is the vote rate: total votes divided by the impressions of the poll post.
The X Ads glossary lists poll votes among engagements, next to reposts, replies and likes. A vote is therefore one engagement in your post analytics. The vote rate isolates that single action.
The Poll Rules That Shape the Numbers
- A poll has two to four choices, with up to 25 characters for each choice.
- The duration defaults to 1 day. The minimum is 5 minutes and the maximum is 7 days.
- Each account can vote one time, and results appear to a voter right after voting.
- Votes are private. Neither the poll creator nor other participants can see who voted or how.
- Photos cannot be included in a poll.
Those rules come from the About X Polls page in the X Help Center, read on 2026-10-03. One vote per account means votes should not exceed impressions for the same poll.
How Does the Poll Calculator Work?
Vote rate = total votes / impressions x 100Votes per choice = total votes x choice percentage / 100Votes per hour = total votes / poll duration in hours- The tool divides total votes by impressions and multiplies by 100.
- It divides votes by followers, times 100, and votes by the hours the poll ran.
- It multiplies total votes by each percentage to estimate the votes behind every choice.
- It sorts the choices and subtracts second place from first to get the lead in percentage points.
- It adds likes, reposts and replies to votes for the counted engagement rate.
- It compares your choices and hours with the published poll limits.
The percentages should add to about 100. X rounds each share, so totals slightly off 100 are normal. The tool warns you when the sum is further off.
Poll Engagement Example
Example values only, not benchmarks. An account with 4,800 followers runs a three-choice poll for 1 day. The post gets 9,000 impressions and 600 votes, split 46%, 31% and 23%. It also collects 40 likes, 12 reposts and 28 replies.
- Vote rate = 600 / 9,000 x 100 = 6.67%.
- Votes per 100 followers = 600 / 4,800 x 100 = 12.50.
- Votes per hour = 600 / 24 = 25.0.
- Votes per choice = about 276, 186 and 138.
- Lead over second place = 46 - 31 = 15 points, or about 90 votes.
- Counted engagement rate = (600 + 40 + 12 + 28) / 9,000 x 100 = 7.56%.
- Votes as a share of counted engagements = 600 / 680 = 88.2%.
Almost 9 in 10 counted engagements were votes. A like rate alone would have missed nearly all of the reaction to this post.
Factors That Change Poll Engagement
When You Read the Numbers
Votes stop when the poll closes. Impressions keep growing afterwards. The vote rate of a closed poll therefore drifts down over time, so record it at the same point for every poll.
Poll Duration
A 7-day poll has more time to collect votes than a 1-hour poll. Votes per hour puts polls of different length on one scale.
Number of Choices
More choices split the same votes into smaller groups. With four choices and 40 votes, each choice averages 10 votes, and one vote moves a share by 2.5 points.
Repeat Views
The X Help Center says views are not unique. People who return to check results add views and cannot add a second vote.
Reposts
A repost shows the poll to people outside your followers. Votes per 100 followers can then pass 100.
Vote Rate vs Engagement Rate for a Poll
The vote rate counts one action. The engagement rate counts every action on the post.
| Point | Vote rate | Counted engagement rate |
|---|---|---|
| Top of the fraction | Votes only | Votes + likes + reposts + replies |
| Public data needed | Votes and view count | All public counters |
| Stops growing | When the poll closes | Never fully; likes and replies can still arrive |
| Good for | Comparing one poll with another | Comparing a poll with other post types |
| Example poll | 6.67% | 7.56% |
Your analytics total may also include clicks that the public counters hide. For that full figure, by impressions and by followers, use the X engagement rate calculator.
When to Use a Poll Engagement Calculator
Comparing Two Polls
Raw vote counts favour the poll that was shown more. Vote rate compares polls of different reach, and votes per hour compares polls of different length.
Turning Percentages into Votes
X shows shares, not counts per choice. The tool converts them, which helps when you report results. Any single share can also be checked with the percentage calculator.
Judging a Close Result
A 52 to 48 split on 50 votes is a 2-vote gap. The lead in votes shows how thin a margin is before you announce a winner.
Tracking Voting Pace
Check the vote total at several times while the poll is open. The engagement velocity calculator turns those checks into votes per hour for each interval.
Planning Reach
The impression-to-engagement ratio calculator shows how many impressions one vote took when you enter votes as the engagement count.
Common Poll Engagement Mistakes
1. Treating a Poll as a Survey
Voters choose themselves, and any account that sees the post can vote. The result describes the people who voted, not your whole audience or the public.
2. Reading Small Leads as Wins
With 20 votes, one vote equals 5 points. A 55 to 45 result is then a 2-vote gap.
3. Comparing Vote Counts Across Durations
A week-long poll and a one-hour poll are not alike. Use the vote rate or votes per hour.
4. Expecting Exact Votes per Choice
Shares are rounded before you see them. A choice shown as 33% of 100 votes could be 33 votes, and the three choices may not add to 100.
5. Applying Multipliers for Topic or Region
Adjustment factors by topic, region or account badge have no published basis in the pages we read. This page applies none.
6. Looking for Who Voted
Votes are private by design. No calculator or tool can list voters.
Accuracy and Limitations
The vote rate is exact for the numbers you enter. Votes per choice are approximate, because the shares are rounded.
What it calculates accurately
- Vote rate, votes per 100 followers and votes per hour.
- Approximate votes behind each choice and the lead margin.
- Counted engagement rate and the vote share of it.
- Whether your choices and duration fit the published poll limits.
What it does not account for
- Who voted, or whether voters follow you.
- Whether the result represents a wider group.
- Any benchmark by topic, region or account type.
- Exact per-choice counts, which the platform does not show.
How We Calculate Poll Engagement
Frequently Asked Questions About X Poll Engagement

How many choices can an X poll have?
An X poll has two to four choices. The X Help Center says each choice can use up to 25 characters.
How long can an X poll run?
A poll runs from 5 minutes to 7 days, and the default is 1 day. In hours, that range is about 0.08 to 168.
