X (Twitter) Follower Growth Calculator

Quick answer

An X (Twitter) follower growth calculator measures how fast your follower count changed between two dates. It subtracts the earlier count from the later one and divides by the earlier count. Going from 5,000 to 5,220 followers in 30 days is growth of 4.40%, or about 7.33 new followers per day. It measures your past; it predicts nothing.

How to Use the X Follower Growth Calculator

  1. Note your follower count today. It shows on your profile.
  2. Enter an earlier count and the days between the two. A screenshot, a note or an analytics export from last month works.
  3. Add new follows, unfollows and posts for the same period. All three are optional and unlock the last three results.

What each result tells you:

ResultWhat it means
Follower growth rateThe net change as a percentage of the starting count.
Net follower changeFollowers now minus followers at the start.
Followers per day and per weekThe net change spread evenly across the period.
30-day equivalent rateYour growth restated for a 30-day month, so periods of different lengths compare fairly.
Unfollow rateUnfollows as a percentage of the starting count.
New follows keptThe share of new follows left after unfollows are taken off.
Net followers per postNet change divided by the posts you made.

What Is X Follower Growth?

X follower growth is the change in the number of accounts that follow you over a set period. The growth rate states that change as a percentage of where you started.

The X Help Center describes following as subscribing to an account as a follower, so that its updates appear in the Home timeline. Each follower is one more account that chose to receive your posts.

The count you see is a net figure. New follows push it up and unfollows pull it down. The X Help Center also lists locked accounts among the things that affect follower counts. Two accounts can show the same net change with very different activity underneath.

This calculator is for creators, brands and community managers who track an account month by month. It measures what already happened. It does not grade your account, and it does not compare you with other accounts.

How Does the Follower Growth Calculator Work?

The calculator compares two follower counts and scales the difference three ways.

Formula: Growth rate = (followers now - followers at start) / followers at start x 100
Followers per day = (followers now - followers at start) / days
30-day equivalent = (followers now / followers at start)^(30 / days) - 1
  1. It subtracts the earlier count from the later one. That is the net follower change.
  2. It divides the net change by the starting count for the growth rate, and by the days for the daily pace.
  3. It restates the growth for a 30-day month with a compound formula, not a simple rescale.
  4. With the optional figures, it divides unfollows by the starting count and the net change by your posts.

The compound step matters when the window is not 30 days. Growth of 1.50% in 7 days is 6.59% per 30 days, not the 6.43% a simple rescale gives.

Follower Growth Example

Example values only, not benchmarks. An account had 5,000 followers 30 days ago and has 5,220 today. Over those days 300 accounts followed, 80 unfollowed, and the owner posted 60 times.

StepWorkingResult
Net follower change5,220 - 5,000+220
Growth rate220 / 5,000 x 100+4.40%
Followers per day220 / 30+7.33
Followers per week7.33 x 7+51.33
Unfollow rate80 / 5,000 x 1001.60%
New follows kept(300 - 80) / 300 x 10073.3%
Net followers per post220 / 60+3.67

Meaning: the account grew 4.40% in the month. It gained 6.00% in new follows and gave back 1.60% in unfollows. To see where that pace leads, move the same two counts into the X audience growth forecast calculator.

Factors That Change Your Follower Growth Rate

The growth rate is simple arithmetic, but several things change what it tells you.

The Length of the Window

A short window swings with single posts. The 7-day example above reads 6.59% per 30 days, while the 30-day example reads 4.40%. Longer windows smooth this out.

The Size of the Starting Count

The same 220 followers is 4.40% of 5,000 and 0.44% of 50,000. Compare percentages across accounts and raw numbers within one account.

Unfollows and Removed Accounts

Unfollows lower the net figure. X Help also covers locked accounts affecting follower counts, so the number can move without any action by you.

How Often You Post

More posts give more chances to be seen. The example account netted 3.67 followers per post. The same 220 followers from 120 posts would be 1.83 per post.

Posts Shown to Non-Followers

X Help says the For you timeline adds posts from accounts a person does not follow, picked with signals such as popularity and how their network interacts. One widely shared post can lift a whole period.

Growth Rate vs Net Followers vs Followers per Day

Three figures describe the same change, and each suits a different comparison.

FigureExample valueBest for
Growth rate (%)+4.40% in 30 daysComparing accounts or periods of different sizes
Net follower change+220Reporting a single period
Followers per day+7.33Comparing periods of different lengths
30-day equivalent rate+4.40%Lining up a 7-day and a 90-day window
Unfollow rate1.60%Spotting loss hidden behind a healthy net figure

The percentage between any two numbers can be checked with the percentage increase calculator.

When to Use a Follower Growth Calculator

Monthly Reporting

Record your follower count on the first of each month. Enter two readings and report the rate, the net change and the daily pace. The date calculator counts the days between two dates.

Before and After a Campaign

Measure the 30 days before a launch and the 30 days after. Two rates from equal windows are a fair comparison.

Checking a Drop

A falling count shows as a negative rate. The unfollow rate then shows whether more people left or fewer people arrived.

Common Follower Growth Mistakes

1. Rescaling a Short Window in a Straight Line

Multiplying a 7-day rate by 30 / 7 understates compound growth. The old version of this page did that and then compounded the result, which mixed two methods.

2. Trusting Pace Labels

X publishes no "healthy" or "fast" growth rate. Labels such as 5% a month being fast are third-party guesses, and we removed them.

3. Comparing Windows of Different Lengths

A 7-day rate and a 90-day rate are not comparable until both are restated per 30 days.

4. Reading Only the Net Figure

A net gain of 220 can hide 80 unfollows. Enter both parts when you have them.

5. Inflating the Count

The X authenticity policy prohibits follow churn, exchanging follows and paying others to inflate follower counts. Growth from those methods breaks the rules and can be removed.

6. Mixing Dates

The two counts and the follows and unfollows must cover the same dates. The tool flags a mismatch.

Accuracy and Limitations

The arithmetic is exact for the numbers you enter. The result describes one past period and says nothing certain about the next.

What it calculates accurately

  • Net change and growth rate between two counts
  • Followers per day and per week
  • The compound 30-day equivalent rate
  • Unfollow rate, new follows kept and net followers per post

What it does not account for

  • Why followers arrived or left
  • Fake, inactive or locked accounts inside the count
  • Future growth: use the forecast page for a labelled projection
  • How X recommends your posts or account

How We Calculate Follower Growth

Method
Growth rate = net change / starting count x 100. Daily pace = net change / days. 30-day equivalent = (now / start)^(30 / days) - 1.
Inputs used
Two follower counts and the days between them. Optional: new follows, unfollows and posts in the same period.
Figures supplied by this page
None. No benchmark, pace label or typical rate is built in. Presets are labelled examples.
Verdict
Green when followers rose, blue when flat, amber when they fell. It describes direction only.
Rounding
Rates to 2 decimals, share kept to 1 decimal, follower counts to whole numbers.
Edge cases
A starting count of zero and zero days are rejected. Windows under 7 days show a warning. Follows minus unfollows is checked against the net change.

Frequently Asked Questions About X Follower Growth

How do you calculate follower growth rate on X?

Subtract your earlier follower count from your current one, divide by the earlier count and multiply by 100. From 5,000 to 5,220 followers is 220 / 5,000 x 100, or 4.40%.

What is a good follower growth rate on X?

No official figure exists. X publishes no average or target growth rate, so the useful comparison is your own rate this period against your own earlier periods.

Why did my follower count drop?

The count is a net figure, so unfollows lower it, and X Help notes that locked accounts can affect follower counts too. A negative rate here means losses were larger than new follows in the period.

How many days should I measure?

Use 28 days or more where you can. Short windows swing with single posts, and the tool shows a warning for windows under 7 days.

What does the 30-day equivalent rate mean?

It restates your growth as if the window were exactly 30 days, using a compound formula. Growth of 15.00% over 90 days is 4.77% per 30 days, not 5.00%.

Is follower growth the same as audience growth forecast?

No. This page measures growth that already happened. The audience growth forecast page takes that measured rate and projects it forward to a date or a target, as a labelled projection.

Can I use this for an account I do not own?

Yes for the main results, because follower counts are public. The optional unfollow and new-follow figures are only known to the account owner.

Does buying followers raise the growth rate?

It raises the number and breaks the rules. The X authenticity policy prohibits paying others to inflate follows and using third-party services to do so.

Is there a limit on how many accounts I can follow?

Yes. X Help lists a technical limit of 400 follows per day, and extra limits by ratio once an account follows 5,000 others. Following others does not count as your own follower growth.

Is my data saved?

No. The maths runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us. Save keeps a result only in this browser.
