X (Twitter) Influence Calculator

Quick answer

The X (Twitter) influence calculator measures how far your posts travel for the size of your audience. Impressions per follower equals impressions in a period divided by followers. The tool also shows reposts and quotes per 1,000 impressions, your follower-to-following ratio and profile clicks per 1,000 impressions. It uses your own counts and gives no composite score.

How to Use the X Influence Calculator

The calculator needs your follower count and your total impressions for one period. Every other field is optional and adds one more ratio.

  1. Open the analytics for your account and pick one period, such as the last 28 days.
  2. Type your followers and the total impressions for that period.
  3. Add following, posts, reposts, quotes, profile clicks and new followers where you have them.
  4. Type impressions per follower from an earlier period of the same length to see the trend.

What Is Influence on X?

Influence on X is the ability of an account to get its posts seen and passed on. X has no metric with that name and publishes no influence score. This page uses the term for ratios that compare reach with audience size.

Follower count alone says little. Two accounts with 12,000 followers can differ tenfold in how often their posts appear on screens. The ratios below describe that difference with counts X does report:

  • Impressions: the X developer documentation, read on October 3, 2026, defines an impression as a time the post appeared on a user's screen. Impressions are not unique.
  • Reposts and quotes: actions that share your post with another account's followers.
  • Profile clicks: a post metric available to the author for their own posts.
  • Followers and following: the two counts shown on every profile.

X Help states that anyone logged in who views a post counts as a view, whether or not they follow the author. Impressions therefore include people outside your follower list, which is why impressions per follower can rise above 1 many times over.

The page does not blend the ratios into a 0 to 100 score or sort accounts into tiers. A blend needs weights, and no official weights exist.

How Does the Influence Calculator Work?

Formula: Impressions per follower = impressions / followers
Reposts and quotes per 1,000 impressions = (reposts + quotes) / impressions x 1,000
Follower-to-following ratio = followers / following
  1. The tool divides impressions by followers.
  2. It adds reposts and quotes, divides by impressions and multiplies by 1,000.
  3. It divides followers by following.
  4. It divides profile clicks by impressions and multiplies by 1,000.
  5. It divides new followers by profile clicks and multiplies by 100.
  6. It divides impressions by posts, then compares impressions per follower with your earlier figure.

Each ratio stands alone. A blank optional field hides only the ratio that needs it. To simplify a follower-to-following ratio such as 12,000 to 800, use the ratio calculator.

Influence Ratios Example

Example values only. An account has 12,000 followers and follows 800 accounts. In 28 days its 20 posts collected 102,000 impressions, 520 reposts, 80 quotes and 1,530 profile clicks. It gained 153 followers. Impressions per follower in the earlier period were 7.5.

  • Impressions per follower = 102,000 / 12,000 = 8.5.
  • Reposts and quotes = (520 + 80) / 102,000 x 1,000 = 5.9 per 1,000 impressions.
  • Follower-to-following ratio = 12,000 / 800 = 15.00 to 1.
  • Profile clicks = 1,530 / 102,000 x 1,000 = 15.0 per 1,000 impressions.
  • New followers = 153 / 1,530 x 100 = 10.0 per 100 profile clicks.
  • Impressions per post = 102,000 / 20 = 5,100.
  • Change on earlier period = 8.5 - 7.5 = +1.0, or +13.3%.

Each post reached about 0.43 impressions per follower, and the 20 posts together reached 8.5. Reach per follower grew by 13.3% on the earlier period. That is a measured change in this account, not a rank against other accounts.

Factors That Change Your Influence Ratios

How Often You Post

Impressions add up across posts. Doubling the number of posts raises impressions per follower even when each post does no better. Read impressions per post next to it.

Reach Outside Your Followers

X Help says the For you timeline adds posts from accounts a reader does not follow. It selects them with a variety of signals, including how popular a post is and how people in the reader's network interact with it. One recommended post can add 60,000 impressions and lift the example from 8.5 to 13.5.

Repeat Views

X Help states that one person can add more than one view, for example on web and then on a phone. Impressions per follower is a count of screen appearances, not of people reached.

Promoted Posts

The X developer documentation splits metrics into organic and promoted. Paid impressions raise the public total. Leave promoted posts out when you want an organic figure.

Follow Limits

X Help sets a technical limit of 400 follows per day. Once an account follows 5,000 others, further follows depend on its own ratio of followers to following. That rule is one reason the ratio matters in practice.

Influence Ratios vs an Influence Score

Influence ratios report measured counts, and an influence score reports a blend built on chosen weights. Only the first can be checked against your analytics.

When to Use an Influence Calculator

Monthly Account Review

Record the ratios for the same 28 day window each month. Follower change itself is tracked on the X follower growth calculator.

Preparing a Media Kit

A sponsor wants to know how far posts travel. Report impressions per follower and impressions per post with the period they cover.

Vetting a Partner Account

Ask the account owner for the same counts. Ratios from their own analytics tell you more than a follower count.

Planning Ahead

Past impressions per post are the base for any projection. The X impressions forecast calculator turns your own rate into a labelled projection.

Common Influence Mistakes

1. Trusting an Influence Score

X publishes no influence score, no tiers and no weights. A score shown by a tool reflects the choices of that tool.

2. Reading Impressions as People

8.5 impressions per follower does not mean every follower saw 8 posts. Some people saw many and most saw none.

3. Chasing the Follower-to-Following Ratio

Following and then unfollowing large numbers of accounts to lift your follower count is called follow churn. The X Authenticity policy prohibits it.

4. Treating a Checkmark as Influence

X Help states that the blue checkmark shows an active Premium subscription that meets eligibility rules. It is not a measure of reach.

5. Mixing Periods

Impressions for 90 days over a follower count from today is fine. Impressions for 90 days against reposts for 28 days is not.

6. Comparing with Published Averages

X publishes no average impressions per follower. Compare with your own earlier period.

Accuracy and Limitations

Each ratio is exact for the counts you enter. The ratios describe reach, and they do not measure persuasion or sales.

What it calculates accurately

  • Impressions per follower and per post.
  • Reposts and quotes per 1,000 impressions.
  • The follower-to-following ratio.
  • The change between two periods of your own data.

What it does not account for

  • Whether a reader acted on what they saw.
  • How many different people the impressions represent.
  • Reach outside X, such as press or search.
  • Any benchmark or tier from other accounts. None is published.

Follower count is taken at one moment while impressions cover a whole period. For a fast-growing account, use the average of the start and end follower counts.

How We Calculate Influence Ratios

Method
Impressions per follower = impressions / followers. Reposts and quotes per 1,000 impressions = (reposts + quotes) / impressions x 1,000.
Other ratios
Followers / following. Profile clicks / impressions x 1,000. New followers / profile clicks x 100. Impressions / posts.
No composite score
The ratios are shown side by side and never weighted. No tiers or rating bands are applied.
Inputs used
Your own counts from your profile and analytics. Presets are example values.
Verdict
Green or amber from the change on your own earlier figure. Blue when no earlier figure is entered. No benchmark is used.
Rounding
Rates to 1 decimal, the follower-to-following ratio to 2 decimals, impressions per post to a whole number.
Edge cases
Zero followers or zero impressions give no result. A following count of zero shows no ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions About X Influence

Does X have an influence score?

No. X reports counts such as impressions, reposts, quotes and followers. It publishes no influence score and no tiers, so any score shown elsewhere uses weights its author chose.

How do I measure influence on X?

Compare reach with audience size. Divide impressions in a period by followers, and divide reposts plus quotes by impressions times 1,000. Track both against your own earlier periods.

What is a good follower-to-following ratio?

X publishes no target ratio. X Help says only that follow limits above 5,000 follows depend on your own ratio of followers to following. Judge the ratio by your own goals.

What counts as an impression on X?

The X developer documentation defines an impression as a time the post appeared on a user's screen. The count is not unique, so one user viewing twice adds two impressions.

Can impressions per follower be higher than 1?

Yes. Impressions add up across all posts in the period and include views by people who do not follow you. An active account often shows several impressions per follower.

Does a blue checkmark raise my influence?

The checkmark is not a reach metric. X Help states it shows an active Premium subscription that meets eligibility rules. X Help also says a Premium subscription is one factor when replies are ranked.

How many accounts can I follow per day?

X Help sets a technical limit of 400 follows per day for every account. Separate rules prohibit aggressive following, so the limit is not a target.

Is following and unfollowing to gain followers allowed?

No. The X Authenticity policy lists follow churn, which is following and then unfollowing large numbers of accounts to inflate a follower count, as prohibited behaviour.

Why did my impressions per follower fall while followers grew?

New followers raise the bottom of the ratio at once. Impressions rise only when those followers start seeing posts. Check impressions per post as well.

Is my data saved?

No. The maths runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us. Save keeps a result only in this browser.
