Gacha Pity Calculator (Genshin, Honkai: Star Rail, ZZZ, Wuthering Waves)

Quick answer

A gacha pity calculator turns your current pity, the base 5-star rate, the soft-pity onset and the hard pity into your chance of a 5-star and of the featured unit within a number of pulls. In Genshin, 73 pulls from pity 0 give about a 35.6% chance of a 5-star, and a guaranteed featured unit can take up to 180 pulls.

How to Use the Gacha Pity Calculator

  1. Pick your game with a preset, or type the numbers yourself. The preset fills the base rate, soft-pity onset and hard pity; you can edit any of them.
  2. Enter your current pity counter and your 50/50 status. Choose Yes for the 50/50 if you lost your last one, so the next 5-star is guaranteed featured.
  3. Enter the pulls you plan or have, then read your chance of a 5-star, your chance of the featured unit, and how many pulls guarantee each.
ResultWhat it means
Chance of at least one 5-starThe probability that these pulls give you one or more 5-star items, based on your pity.
Chance of the featured 5-starThe probability of the limited unit, after accounting for the 50/50 and the guarantee.
Expected pulls to your next 5-starThe average number of pulls until a 5-star from your current pity. This uses the community ramp, so it is an estimate.
Guaranteed 5-star withinHard pity minus your current pity: the point where any 5-star is certain.
Guaranteed featured withinThe worst case to be certain of the limited unit, including losing one 50/50.

What Is a Gacha Pity Calculator?

A gacha pity calculator is a probability tool for the wish, warp, signal and convene systems in HoYoverse and Kuro Games titles. It answers the question every player asks before a banner: with the pulls I have, how likely am I to get this unit?

What sets this tool apart is honesty about where each number comes from. The base rate, the hard pity and the 50/50 rule are official, published by the game. The soft-pity onset and the exact ramp are community-measured: no publisher releases them, so any number that depends on the ramp is an estimate. The page labels both everywhere, and every parameter is editable, so you are never trusting a hidden assumption. For the idea of averaging over every outcome, see expected value explained.

How Does Gacha Pity Work?

Pity is a counter that rises with every pull that is not a 5-star and resets to zero when you get one. Each pull is an independent draw, so the chance of at least one 5-star over many pulls is the complement of missing on every pull.

Formula: P(at least one 5-star) = 1 - product of (1 - p_i), where p_i is the chance on pull i.
  1. Base rate (official): while your pull is below the soft-pity onset, p_i stays at the flat base rate, such as 0.6% in Genshin.
  2. Soft pity (community): from the onset, the per-pull rate climbs steeply. This calculator uses a transparent linear ramp from the base rate up to 100% at hard pity. The true curve is measured by players, not published.
  3. Hard pity (official): the rate becomes 100% at the hard pity pull, so a 5-star is guaranteed there.
  4. The 50/50 (official): each 5-star has a 50% chance to be the featured unit. If it is not, the next 5-star is guaranteed featured.

Because the base rate and hard pity are official but the ramp between them is community data, the two ends of the curve are solid and the middle is an estimate. For the wider topic, read gacha pity systems explained and understanding loot drop odds.

Gacha Pity Example: 73 Pulls in Genshin

Suppose your Genshin pity is 0 and you have 73 pulls, all of them below the soft-pity onset of 74. Every pull uses the official base rate of 0.6%, so no community estimate is involved.

  1. Each pull misses a 5-star with chance 1 - 0.006 = 0.994.
  2. Missing all 73 pulls has chance 0.994 raised to the 73rd power, about 0.6445.
  3. So the chance of at least one 5-star is 1 - 0.6445 = 0.3555, about 35.6%.
  4. Push to 90 pulls and the hard pity guarantees a 5-star, so the chance becomes exactly 100%.

These two numbers rest only on the official base rate and hard pity, so they are exact. Getting the featured unit is harder: from pity 0 and not on a guarantee, those 73 pulls give about a 21.4% chance of the limited character, because you must also win or clear the 50/50. To be certain of the featured unit you may need up to 180 pulls: 90 to reach a guaranteed 5-star, lose the 50/50, then another 90 for the guaranteed featured pull.

Factors That Change Your Pity Odds

Your Current Pity

The closer you are to soft pity, the higher each pull sits on the ramp. Starting at pity 60 is very different from starting at pity 0, even for the same number of pulls.

The Base Rate (Official)

Wuthering Waves uses 0.8% rather than the 0.6% of the HoYoverse titles, so its early pulls are slightly more generous before soft pity even begins.

The Hard Pity (Official)

Hard pity is 90 in Genshin, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, but 80 in Wuthering Waves. A lower hard pity means fewer pulls to a guarantee.

The Soft-Pity Onset (Community)

An earlier onset lifts the middle of the curve. Because this is a community estimate, you can move it and watch how much the mid-range chance shifts. That sensitivity is exactly why the number is labelled an estimate.

Your 50/50 Status (Official)

If you are on a guarantee, the next 5-star is featured, so the featured chance equals the 5-star chance. If not, roughly half of your 5-stars will be the standard pool first.

Official vs Community: What Each Game Publishes

Every figure below is marked by its source. Base rate, hard pity and the 50/50 are official; onset and ramp are community-measured for all four games.

GameBase rate (official)Hard pity (official)Soft-pity onset (community)Featured rule (official)
Genshin Impact0.6%90~7450/50, then guaranteed
Honkai: Star Rail0.6%90~7450/50, then guaranteed
Zenless Zone Zero0.6%90~7450/50, then guaranteed
Wuthering Waves0.8%80~65-6650/50, then guaranteed

Genshin publishes a comprehensive average of 1.6% (about one 5-star per 62.5 wishes) and Wuthering Waves publishes 1.8% including the guarantee. Honkai: Star Rail guides report about 1.6%, but it was not read directly from the publisher this session, so treat it as reported. For Zenless Zone Zero, the exact official comprehensive figure is not confirmed, so this tool does not assume one. Genshin's Capturing Radiance is a separate small chance, quantified officially only as "a small chance", that can turn a lost 50/50 into the featured unit; it does not change the 50/50 or pity, and any specific percentage for it is a community estimate, so this calculator does not bake one in.

When to Use a Gacha Pity Calculator

Before a Banner

Count the pulls you can afford and check your chance of the featured unit. If it is low, decide whether to save more or skip.

Planning How Much to Save

The guaranteed-featured figure is the worst case. Save for that many pulls and you are certain, whatever your luck. To turn pulls into currency and cost, see how to calculate in-game currency to real money.

Mid-Banner Decisions

Enter your real pity and 50/50 status partway through a banner to see whether one more ten-pull is likely to finish the job.

Common Gacha Pity Mistakes

1. Treating the Soft-Pity Curve as Official

No publisher releases the ramp. Any single-pull rate between soft pity and hard pity is a community estimate, so plan around ranges, not exact mid-curve numbers.

2. Forgetting the 50/50

A 5-star is not the same as the featured unit. About half the time your first 5-star is from the standard pool, which is why the featured chance is lower.

3. Ignoring Your Guarantee

If you lost your last 50/50, your next 5-star is featured for certain. Set the 50/50 status to Yes or you will understate your odds.

4. Assuming Rates Are Identical Across Games

Wuthering Waves uses 0.8% and an 80 hard pity. Copying Genshin numbers onto it is wrong.

5. Expecting an Average to Be a Promise

Expected pulls to a 5-star is a long-run mean. A single banner can land well above or below it. The same caution applies to all drop-rate odds.

6. Reading Odds from the Wrong Banner

Weapon and standard banners have different rates and rules. Use the character or resonator event banner figures, and always check the in-game Details page.

Accuracy and Limitations

The two ends of the curve are exact because they rest on official figures. The middle is a transparent community estimate, and the tool says so wherever it matters.

What it calculates accurately

  • Chance of at least one 5-star from the official base rate and hard pity.
  • The featured chance given the official 50/50-then-guaranteed rule.
  • Guaranteed 5-star and worst-case guaranteed featured pull counts.
  • Every parameter editable, so you can test your own assumptions.

What it does not account for

  • The true soft-pity ramp, which is community-measured, not published.
  • Genshin Capturing Radiance exact trigger odds, which are community estimates only.
  • Weapon, standard and event-specific banners with different rules.
  • Rate or rule changes published after this page was reviewed on 2026-10-05.

How We Calculate Gacha Pity Odds

Method
Independent-trial model. P(at least one 5-star) = 1 - product of (1 - p_i). Per-pull p_i is the official base rate below soft pity, a community linear ramp from the base rate up to 1.0 across onset to hard pity, and 1.0 at hard pity.
Featured unit
On a guarantee, the featured chance equals the 5-star chance. Otherwise it sums, over the pull where the first 5-star lands, a half chance of winning the 50/50 plus a half chance of a second 5-star within the remaining pulls.
Official inputs
Base rate, hard pity and the 50/50-then-guaranteed featured rule.
Community inputs
Soft-pity onset and the ramp shape. No publisher publishes these, so ramp-dependent outputs are estimates.
Self-check
Genshin pity 0: 73 pulls return about 35.6%, 90 pulls return 100%, the featured chance from pity 0 is about 21.4%, and a guaranteed featured takes up to 180 pulls. These match a hand calculation.
Rounding
Chances to one decimal place; expected pulls to one decimal place.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gacha Pity

What is pity in gacha games?

Pity is a counter that rises with every pull that is not a 5-star and resets when you get one. Past a hard pity it guarantees a 5-star, so you cannot keep missing forever.

Is the soft-pity rate official?

No. The base rate and hard pity are official, but the soft-pity onset and the rate ramp are measured by the player community. This calculator labels them as estimates and lets you adjust the onset.

How does the 50/50 work?

Each 5-star has a 50% chance to be the featured unit. If it is not, your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured one. That is why a guaranteed featured can take up to two full pity cycles.

How many pulls guarantee the featured unit in Genshin?

Up to 180 from pity 0 if you are not on a guarantee: 90 to a 5-star, lose the 50/50, then 90 more for the guaranteed featured pull. On a guarantee it is 90.

Why is my featured chance lower than my 5-star chance?

Because of the 50/50. Unless you are on a guarantee, about half of your first 5-stars will be standard-pool units rather than the featured one.

What base rate and hard pity does Wuthering Waves use?

Wuthering Waves publishes a 0.8% base rate and an 80 hard pity, with a 1.8% average including the guarantee. Its soft pity is community-estimated to start around pull 65 to 66.

What is Capturing Radiance in Genshin?

It is a separate small chance that can turn a lost 50/50 into the featured 5-star. The official wording calls it only "a small chance", and it does not change the 50/50 or pity, so this tool does not bake in a percentage.

Does pity carry over between banners?

In these games the character event pity carries between character event banners, but weapon and standard banners track pity separately. Always confirm on the in-game Details page.

What is the expected number of pulls for a 5-star?

Around 62 pulls in Genshin on average, close to the official comprehensive rate of about one 5-star per 62.5 wishes. This figure depends on the community soft-pity ramp, so treat it as an estimate.

Is this calculator official?

No. It is a free fan-made planning tool. Not affiliated with or endorsed by HoYoverse or Kuro Games. Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves are trademarks of their respective owners.
