What Is the Chiropractor Salary Calculator?
The chiropractor salary calculator is a gross pay converter that also reads the federal wage table for chiropractors. It answers two questions: what your pay equals per year, month and hour, and how that pay ranks among employed chiropractors nationwide.
Chiropractors assess, treat and care for patients by manipulating the spine and musculoskeletal system. The Occupational Outlook Handbook lists their typical tasks: review a medical history, examine posture, spine and reflexes, adjust the spinal column and other joints, apply heat or cold, and advise on exercise and nutrition.
| Chiropractors (29-1011), May 2025 | Annual wage | Hourly wage |
|---|---|---|
| 10th percentile | $43,460 | $20.90 |
| 25th percentile | $60,070 | $28.88 |
| 50th percentile (median) | $79,200 | $38.08 |
| 75th percentile | $105,050 | $50.51 |
| 90th percentile | $146,080 | $70.23 |
| Mean (average) | $90,520 | $43.52 |
| Employment | 39,630 jobs | |
The table is occupation code 29-1011. The lowest tenth of employed chiropractors earned less than $43,460 and the highest tenth earned more than $146,080. The 90th percentile is 3.4 times the 10th. The mean of $90,520 sits $11,320 above the median.
The tool is not an income model for a practice. It holds no state index, specialty premium or ownership factor, because BLS publishes none for this table.
How Does the Chiropractor Salary Calculator Work?
The calculator converts your pay to one year, then finds its place between two published BLS percentiles. BLS publishes five percentile wages per occupation. The tool draws a straight line between the two nearest ones.
Annual = hourly x hours per week x weeks per yearPercentile = P_low + (pay - wage_low) / (wage_high - wage_low) x (P_high - P_low)- Annual pay: an hourly wage is multiplied by your hours and weeks. A salary is used as entered.
- Hourly pay: annual pay is divided by hours per week times weeks per year.
- Band: the tool finds the two BLS percentiles on each side of your pay.
- Approximate percentile: for $72,000 the nearest points are the 25th percentile ($60,070) and the median ($79,200). 25 + (72,000 - 60,070) / (79,200 - 60,070) x 25 = 40.6, shown as about the 41st.
- Gap: annual pay minus the BLS median of $79,200.
Pay below the 10th percentile or above the 90th gets no number, because BLS publishes no points beyond them. A wage that BLS shows only as at or above its reporting limit is never replaced with a guess. BLS annual wages equal the hourly wage times 2,080 hours. A part-time schedule lowers annual pay but not the hourly rate, so the tool also places your hourly rate. To convert a salary on other schedules, try the salary to hourly calculator.
Chiropractor Salary Example
An associate chiropractor earns $34 an hour for 30 patient hours a week and 48 paid weeks. A clinic across town offers $40 an hour for the same schedule.
- Hours per year: 30 x 48 = 1,440.
- Annual pay: 34 x 1,440 = $48,960.00.
- Monthly pay: $4,080.00. Weekly pay averaged over 52 weeks: $941.54.
- Hourly percentile: $34.00 sits between $28.88 and $38.08, at about the 39th percentile.
- Annual percentile: $48,960.00 sits between $43,460 and $60,070, at about the 15th percentile.
- Gap to the median: -$30,240.00, or -38.2%.
- Second offer: 40 x 1,440 = $57,600.00, which is +$8,640.00 (+17.6%) and about the 23rd percentile.
The two percentiles tell different stories. The hourly rate is not far below the national median. The annual figure is near the bottom of the table, because 1,440 hours is 69 percent of the 2,080 hours behind BLS annual wages.
Factors That Change Chiropractor Pay
Self-Employment
The Handbook reports that 36 percent of chiropractors are self-employed and 57 percent work in offices of chiropractors. BLS wage data do not cover the self-employed or owners and partners of unincorporated businesses. The Handbook adds that chiropractors tend to earn more as they build a client base and become owners or partners. That income is outside the table.
Industry
Offices of other health practitioners hold 36,460 of the 39,630 employee jobs, or 92.0 percent. Hospitals and physician offices pay a higher mean wage but employ few chiropractors. General hospitals employ only 130.
| Industry (BLS, May 2025) | Mean hourly wage |
|---|---|
| General medical and surgical hospitals | $58.56 |
| Offices of physicians | $56.51 |
| Outpatient care centers | $56.50 |
| Management of companies and enterprises | $49.66 |
| Specialty hospitals | $49.09 |
Hours
Most chiropractors work full time, but part-time work is common, the Handbook says. Fewer hours cut annual pay at the same hourly rate.
Bonus and Production Pay
BLS counts commissions, incentive pay and production bonuses as wages. It leaves out overtime pay, profit sharing and year-end bonuses. Add your production pay to the pay you enter so the comparison is like for like.
When to Use This Calculator
Reading an Associate Contract
Add the base salary and the bonus you expect, then check the band. A base near $60,070 sits at the 25th percentile.
Comparing Part-Time Offers
Enter each hourly rate with the real patient hours. The annual result shows what the schedule delivers over a year.
Planning the Degree
A Doctor of Chiropractic program takes about 4 years after at least 3 years of undergraduate study. Students can test a starting wage against their debt with the student loan payoff calculator.
Common Mistakes with Chiropractor Pay Data
1. Treating Clinic Collections as Pay
Collections are revenue. Pay is what remains for the chiropractor after overhead. Only enter the amount paid to you.
2. Assuming the Table Includes Owners
More than a third of chiropractors are self-employed, and none of them are in the wage survey.
3. Chasing the Hospital Wage
Hospitals show the highest mean wage, yet they employ 130 chiropractors nationally. Few such jobs exist.
4. Leaving Out the Bonus
BLS wages include production bonuses. A base-only figure makes your pay look lower than it is.
5. Annualising at 2,080 Hours
A 30-hour week for 48 weeks is 1,440 hours. Multiply by the hours you really work.
Chiropractor Education and Job Outlook
Chiropractors need a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and a state license. Every state requires the license. The degree usually takes 4 years, and admission requires at least 3 years of undergraduate education.
BLS projects chiropractor employment to grow 9 percent from 2025 to 2035, much faster than the 3 percent average for all occupations. Jobs are projected to rise from 61,700 to 67,000, with about 2,600 openings a year. The 61,700 count includes self-employed chiropractors, which is why it exceeds the 39,630 employee jobs in the wage table.
Accuracy and Limitations
The pay conversion is exact arithmetic. The percentile is an estimate, because BLS publishes only five points of the wage distribution for chiropractors. The result is an estimate from survey data. It is not a pay offer and not a prediction of your pay.
What it calculates accurately
- Annual, monthly, biweekly, weekly and hourly gross pay from your inputs.
- Which two BLS percentiles your pay sits between.
- The dollar and percent gap to the BLS median.
- The difference between two offers on the same schedule.
What it does not account for
- Tax, benefits, retirement contributions or student loan payments. Owners and contractors can estimate one piece with the self-employment tax calculator.
- Your state, metro area, experience or employer. The table is national.
- Overtime pay, on-call pay, shift differentials, profit sharing and year-end bonuses. BLS leaves these out of its wage figures.
- Self-employed and owner income. BLS reports that 36 percent of chiropractors are self-employed.
- Clinic overhead, malpractice cover or equipment costs.
- The exact shape of the wage curve between two percentiles. The straight line is an approximation.
