A CT technologist salary calculator turns a base rate, shift differential, on-call pay and call-back pay into yearly gross pay. BLS publishes no wage for CT technologists alone. It counts them as radiologic technologists and technicians, whose median wage was $38.52 an hour, or $80,110 a year, in May 2025.

How to Use the CT Technologist Salary Calculator
- Choose hourly rate or annual salary, then enter your base pay, regular hours and weeks per year.
- Add your own shift differential, on-call hours and rate, and call-back or overtime hours. Leave any of them blank.
- Read your annual gross pay, the pay-period amounts and where your rate sits in the BLS wage table for all radiologic technologists and technicians.
What each result tells you:
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Annual gross pay | Base pay for the year plus every extra you entered, before tax. |
| Monthly, biweekly, weekly | Annual gross pay divided by 12, 26 and 52. |
| Base hourly rate (straight time) | Base pay per regular paid hour, with no differential, call or overtime pay. This is the number compared with BLS. |
| Extra pay per year | Shift differential, on-call pay and call-back or overtime pay added together. It is in the annual total but not in the comparison. |
| BLS percentile band | The two published BLS percentiles for all radiologic technologists and technicians that your rate falls between. |
| Approximate percentile | A straight-line estimate between those two percentiles. BLS does not publish it. |
| Gap to BLS median | Your rate minus the BLS median hourly wage for all radiologic technologists and technicians, in dollars and percent. |
| Full-time equivalent | Your compared rate times 2,080 hours, the work year BLS uses for annual wages. |
| Second offer rows | The second offer as annual and hourly base pay, its percentile and the yearly difference. |
The first preset is an example, not a typical wage. It shows a CT technologist paid $40.00 an hour for 40 hours a week. That is $83,200.00 a year, about the 54th percentile for all radiologic technologists and technicians. BLS publishes no CT-only wage figure.
What Is a CT Technologist Salary?
A CT technologist salary is the gross pay a computed tomography technologist earns in a year, before tax. It has two parts. The first is base pay at a straight-time rate. The second is extra pay for shifts, standby time and call-backs.
BLS does not survey CT technologists as a separate occupation. Its classification puts them in code 29-2034, radiologic technologists and technicians. The definition of that code reads: take x-rays and CAT scans. It names a CT scanner operator as an example. Technologists who work mainly on MRI scanners have their own code, 29-2035.
| Fact | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| BLS occupation code | 29-2034 Radiologic Technologists and Technicians | BLS classification |
| Jobs in the whole group, May 2025 | 230,490 | BLS OEWS |
| Typical entry education | Associate degree | BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook |
| Licence | Most states require radiologic technologists to be licensed or certified | BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook |
| Projected growth, 2025 to 2035 | 5% for radiologic and MRI technologists together, faster than the 3% average | BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook |
| CT credential | Earned through a postprimary pathway, after a credential in a supporting discipline | ARRT |
The handbook says radiologic technologists may specialize in x-ray, mammography or CT imaging. It also says some technologists work evenings, weekends or overnight, because imaging is needed in emergencies. That is why this tool has fields for shift and call pay.
All facts were read on 2026-10-02. The tool is for technologists and students checking an offer or a schedule. It is not a pay quote from any employer.
How Does the CT Technologist Salary Calculator Work?
The calculator turns your pay into a yearly total, then places your straight-time rate in the BLS wage distribution for all radiologic technologists and technicians.
Annual gross pay = base pay + shift differential + on-call pay + call-back or overtime payApproximate percentile = P1 + (your rate - W1) / (W2 - W1) x (P2 - P1)- Convert. An hourly rate is multiplied by regular hours and weeks. A salary is divided by them to get pay per hour.
- Add the shift differential. Dollars per hour x share of hours x regular hours x weeks.
- Add on-call pay. Standby hours per week x standby rate x weeks.
- Add call-back or overtime pay. Hours per week x base rate x multiplier x weeks.
- Find the band. Your base hourly rate is checked against the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile wages.
- Interpolate. W1 and W2 are the two BLS wages around your rate. P1 and P2 are their percentiles.
- Measure the gap. Your rate minus the median, then divided by the median.
The table below is the BLS wage table the tool uses. It is the table for the whole radiologic technologist group, not for CT alone.
| Radiologic Technologists and Technicians (SOC 29-2034), all workers in the group | Hourly wage | Annual wage |
|---|---|---|
| 10th percentile | $26.91 | $55,980 |
| 25th percentile | $31.16 | $64,810 |
| 50th percentile (median) | $38.52 | $80,110 |
| 75th percentile | $47.47 | $98,750 |
| 90th percentile | $57.05 | $118,660 |
| Mean (average) | $40.31 | $83,840 |
| Employment | 230,490 jobs | |

BLS annual wages equal the hourly wage times 2,080 hours. That is 40 hours for 52 weeks. The comparison uses hourly pay so that part-time and long-shift schedules are judged fairly.
CT Technologist Pay Example: Night Shifts with Call
A CT technologist earns a base rate of $42.00 an hour. She works three 12-hour night shifts, so 36 regular hours a week for 52 weeks. Her night differential is $4.00 an hour on every shift. She carries the call phone 12 hours a week at $3.50 an hour and averages 2 call-back hours at time and a half. These are example figures, not typical rates. An imaging center offers $46.00 an hour for days only.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Base annual pay | 42 x 36 x 52 | $78,624.00 |
| Shift differential | 4 x 100% x 36 x 52 | $7,488.00 |
| On-call pay | 12 x 3.50 x 52 | $2,184.00 |
| Call-back pay | 2 x 42 x 1.5 x 52 | $6,552.00 |
| Annual gross pay | Base plus the three extras | $94,848.00 |
| BLS band | 42.00 is between 38.52 and 47.47 | 50th to 75th percentile |
| Approximate percentile | 50 + (42.00 - 38.52) / (47.47 - 38.52) x 25 | About the 60th |
| Second offer | 46 x 36 x 52 | $86,112.00, about the 71st |
Her extras add $16,224.00 a year, which is 20.6% on top of base pay. The day offer raises base pay by $7,488.00 a year. That is less than the extras she would give up. The percentile uses the base rate only, and it ranks her among all radiologic technologists and technicians.
Factors That Change CT Technologist Pay
Shift Differential
A differential is a fixed number of dollars added to each hour on certain shifts. It changes yearly pay in a straight line. A $4.00 differential on 36 hours a week adds $7,488.00 a year. Halve the share of hours and the amount halves.
On-Call and Call-Back Hours
Standby pay is a rate your employer sets for time you must stay reachable. Call-back hours are hours you are called in to work. The two are paid differently, so the tool has a field for each. Enter the figures from your own pay stub or offer letter.
Regular Hours
Three 12-hour shifts make a 36-hour week. At the same rate that pays 10% less per year than a 40-hour week. At $42.00 an hour the gap is $8,736.00 a year. The salary to hourly calculator shows the same conversion on its own.
State
California has the highest annual mean wage for the group at $117,950. The national mean is $83,840.
| State | Annual mean wage |
|---|---|
| California | $117,950 |
| Massachusetts | $101,910 |
| Washington | $100,900 |

CT vs MRI Pay Data
MRI technologists have their own BLS code. CT technologists do not. The Occupational Outlook Handbook gives a May 2025 median of $95,480 for MRI technologists and $80,110 for radiologic technologists and technicians. The second figure mixes x-ray, CT and other technologists, so it says nothing exact about CT.
When to Use the CT Technologist Salary Calculator
Weighing a Day Job Against a Night Job
Enter the night job with its differential and call pay. Enter the day rate as the second offer. Compare the yearly base difference with your extra pay per year.
Pricing a Call Rotation
Type the standby hours and rate, then the call-back hours you expect. The extra pay row shows what the rotation is worth before tax.
Checking a Rate After a New Credential
Enter the new base rate and read the percentile band. The band tells you where the rate sits among all radiologic technologists and technicians.
Planning a Budget
The result is gross pay. Read the gross vs net income guide before you plan spending from it. The salary calculator converts any pay figure without the BLS table.
Common Mistakes with CT Technologist Pay
1. Reading the BLS Figure as a CT Wage
The median of $80,110 covers every radiologic technologist and technician. BLS does not split CT from x-ray work.
2. Putting the Differential into Base Pay
BLS wages exclude shift differentials. A base rate of $42.00 with a $4.00 differential should be compared at $42.00, not $46.00.
3. Counting Standby Hours as Worked Hours
Standby time is paid at the on-call rate. Only the hours you are called in go in the call-back field.
4. Comparing a 36-Hour Year with the BLS Annual Wage
BLS annual wages assume 2,080 hours. A 36-hour schedule has 1,872. Compare hourly rates, or use the full-time equivalent row.
5. Using a Flat Multiplier for Nights
The old tool on this page raised pay by a fixed percent for nights and call. No official source gives such a percent. Use your own dollar rates. The overtime pay calculator handles overtime alone.
Accuracy and Limitations
The conversion is exact arithmetic. The percentile is an estimate, because BLS publishes only five points of the wage distribution and the table covers a broader group than CT technologists.
What it calculates accurately
- Annual, monthly, biweekly, weekly and hourly gross pay from your own figures.
- The BLS percentile band your straight-time rate falls in, for all radiologic technologists and technicians.
- The dollar and percent gap to the BLS national median for that group.
- Shift differential, on-call and call-back pay for the year, from your own rates.
What it does not account for
- Federal, state and local tax, or any payroll deduction.
- Your state, metro area, employer or years of experience.
- Benefits such as health insurance, retirement match and paid leave.
- A wage figure for CT technologists alone. BLS does not publish one.
- Wages after May 2025. BLS updates the survey once a year.
- Overtime based on a rate above base pay. Some employers add the differential to the rate that overtime is based on, so real overtime pay can be a little higher.
BLS wages are straight-time gross pay. They exclude overtime pay, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. This tool keeps those three extras out of the comparison and shows them in the annual total.

Frequently Asked Questions About CT Technologist Salaries
How much do CT technologists make?
BLS does not publish a wage for CT technologists alone. It counts them as radiologic technologists and technicians. That group had a median wage of $38.52 an hour, or $80,110 a year, in May 2025.
Why is there no BLS salary for CT technologists?
BLS surveys pay by occupation code, and CT technologists share code 29-2034 with x-ray and other radiologic technologists. Only MRI technologists have a separate imaging code, 29-2035.
What do the highest paid radiologic technologists earn?
Radiologic technologists and technicians at the 90th percentile earned $118,660 a year in May 2025. Those at the 75th percentile earned $98,750. Both figures are straight-time pay.
Does the BLS wage include night differential and call pay?
No. BLS wages are straight-time gross pay. They exclude overtime pay and shift differentials. This tool adds your differential and call pay to the annual total but leaves them out of the percentile.
How is on-call pay calculated for a CT technologist?
On-call pay is standby hours times the standby rate. Twelve standby hours a week at $3.50 an hour is $2,184.00 a year. Hours you are called in are paid as worked hours.
How much is time and a half on a CT call-back?
Time and a half is the base rate times 1.5. At $42.00 an hour a call-back hour pays $63.00. Enter a different multiplier if your contract pays call-backs at another rate.
Which state pays radiologic technologists the most?
California pays the highest annual mean wage for radiologic technologists and technicians, $117,950. Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon and New York follow. BLS has no state figure for CT alone.
What credential does a CT technologist need?
Requirements vary by state and employer. ARRT offers a CT credential through its postprimary pathway. That pathway requires a credential in a supporting discipline first, plus clinical experience and structured education in CT.
Is CT technologist employment growing?
BLS projects 5 percent growth from 2025 to 2035 for radiologic and MRI technologists together, with about 15,300 openings a year. It gives no separate projection for CT.
Is my pay information saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. The Save button stores a result only on your own device.
