How Do Recovery Score Bands Compare?

All four systems use a 100-point display, but their category boundaries and inputs differ. The same raw number can carry a different official label.

Why Is a Raw Recovery Score Difference Misleading?

A WHOOP score of 67 is already high, while an Oura score of 67 is fair. Subtracting those numbers would hide the real category difference. This calculator compares published meaning, not arithmetic distance.

How Does the Recovery Score Comparison Calculator Work?

The calculator first assigns each score its official platform label. It then maps labels into a broad low, middle, or high zone only for a cautious comparison.

Oura’s Pay Attention band maps to low, Fair and Good map to middle, and Optimal maps to high. WHOOP and Fitbit already use three broad bands. Garmin’s Poor and Low map to low, Moderate maps to middle, and High and Prime map to high.

If both broad zones match, the tool reports alignment. A one-zone gap is mixed, and a low-versus-high gap is a strong mismatch. These are tool rules, not validated clinical thresholds.

Examples show why category-aware comparison gives a clearer answer than subtracting the scores.

Oura 86 vs WHOOP 70

Both fall in their high broad zone. The 16-point raw gap does not mean Oura shows 16% more recovery.

Garmin 72 vs Fitbit 68

Garmin is Moderate while Fitbit is High. The scores are close, but their platform labels do not fully align.

Oura 67 vs WHOOP 67

The numbers match exactly. Oura calls 67 Fair, while WHOOP calls 67 High, so the meanings differ.

What Should You Do When Recovery Scores Disagree?

Start by checking timing, device fit, missing sleep, app updates, and each platform’s detailed contributors. Then compare the score with symptoms and recent training.

Do not pick the highest score just because it supports a hard workout. A lower result may reflect an input the other device does not use. One device may also have poor signal quality.

What Are the Limits of Recovery Score Comparison?

Consumer recovery scores are proprietary wellness estimates. They are not interchangeable medical tests, and public category bands do not reveal every algorithm weight.

Skin contact, motion, sleep detection, travel, alcohol, medication, illness, stress, menstrual cycle changes, and software updates can affect inputs. A high score cannot clear an injury or prove that intense exercise is safe.

Stop exercise and seek urgent care for chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, stroke symptoms, or a new sustained irregular heartbeat. Persistent illness or worrying changes need qualified medical care.

Which recovery score is most accurate?

No single platform is proven best for every person and purpose. Accuracy depends on the underlying signal, device fit, missing data, algorithm, and the outcome being compared.

Should I compare scores from different days?

Same-morning scores give a cleaner comparison. Different timing adds sleep, activity, stress, and algorithm-update differences, so the result has lower confidence.

Why do two devices disagree about recovery?

Are recovery score trends more useful than one day?

Can a recovery score tell me if I am sick?
