A dialysis technician salary calculator turns a base rate, overtime, certification pay and shift differential into yearly gross pay. BLS publishes no wage for dialysis technicians alone. It counts them in a catch-all group of health technologists and technicians, whose median wage was $24.18 an hour, or $50,290 a year, in May 2025.

How to Use the Dialysis Technician Salary Calculator
- Choose hourly rate or annual salary, then enter your base pay, regular hours and weeks per year.
- Add your own overtime hours, certification pay and shift differential. Leave any of them blank.
- Read your annual gross pay, the pay-period amounts and where your rate sits in the BLS wage table for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other.
What each result tells you:
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Annual gross pay | Base pay for the year plus every extra you entered, before tax. |
| Monthly, biweekly, weekly | Annual gross pay divided by 12, 26 and 52. |
| Base hourly rate (straight time) | Base pay per regular paid hour, with no overtime, certification pay or differential. This is the number compared with BLS. |
| Extra pay per year | Overtime pay, certification pay and shift differential added together. It is in the annual total but not in the comparison. |
| BLS percentile band | The two published BLS percentiles for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other that your rate falls between. |
| Approximate percentile | A straight-line estimate between those two percentiles. BLS does not publish it. |
| Gap to BLS median | Your rate minus the BLS median hourly wage for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other, in dollars and percent. |
| Full-time equivalent | Your compared rate times 2,080 hours, the work year BLS uses for annual wages. |
| Second offer rows | The second offer as annual and hourly base pay, its percentile and the yearly difference. |
The first preset is an example, not a typical wage. It shows a dialysis technician paid $22.00 an hour for 40 hours a week. That is $45,760.00 a year, about the 31st percentile for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other. BLS publishes no wage figure for dialysis technicians alone.
What Is a Dialysis Technician Salary?
A dialysis technician salary is the gross pay a patient care dialysis technician earns in a year, before tax. Most of it is an hourly base rate times paid hours. The rest is overtime and any certification pay or shift differential.
BLS does not survey dialysis technicians as a separate occupation. Its classification puts them in code 29-2099, health technologists and technicians, all other. That code is a catch-all. BLS names a dialysis technician, an EEG technologist and a polysomnograph technician as examples. So the wage table on this page mixes several jobs.
| Fact | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| BLS occupation code | 29-2099 Health Technologists and Technicians, All Other | BLS classification |
| Jobs in the whole group, May 2025 | 182,610 | BLS OEWS |
| Minimum schooling | High school diploma or equivalent | 42 CFR 494.140 |
| Training | A program approved by the facility medical director and governing body, directed by a registered nurse | 42 CFR 494.140 |
| Certification deadline | Within 18 months of being hired as a patient care dialysis technician | 42 CFR 494.140 |
| One national exam | CCHT: 150 questions in 3 hours | NNCC |
The federal rule applies to dialysis facilities in the Medicare program. It accepts a state certification program or a national one. The training must cover dialysis principles, patient care, procedures, complications, water treatment, infection control and safety.

How Does the Dialysis Technician Salary Calculator Work?
The calculator turns your pay into a yearly total, then places your straight-time rate in the BLS wage distribution for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other.
Annual gross pay = base pay + overtime pay + certification pay + shift differentialApproximate percentile = P1 + (your rate - W1) / (W2 - W1) x (P2 - P1)- Convert. An hourly rate is multiplied by regular hours and weeks. A salary is divided by them to get pay per hour.
- Add overtime. Overtime hours per week x base rate x multiplier x weeks.
- Add certification pay. Dollars per hour x regular hours x weeks.
- Add the shift differential. Dollars per hour x share of hours x regular hours x weeks.
- Find the band. Your base hourly rate is checked against the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile wages.
- Interpolate. W1 and W2 are the two BLS wages around your rate. P1 and P2 are their percentiles.
- Measure the gap. Your rate minus the median, then divided by the median.
The table below is the BLS wage table the tool uses. It covers a catch-all group of health technologists and technicians, not dialysis technicians alone.
| Health Technologists and Technicians, All Other (SOC 29-2099), all workers in the group | Hourly wage | Annual wage |
|---|---|---|
| 10th percentile | $18.36 | $38,180 |
| 25th percentile | $21.24 | $44,170 |
| 50th percentile (median) | $24.18 | $50,290 |
| 75th percentile | $30.93 | $64,340 |
| 90th percentile | $40.99 | $85,270 |
| Mean (average) | $28.23 | $58,710 |
| Employment | 182,610 jobs | |
Source: BLS OEWS, national estimates, May 2025. Read on 2026-10-02. This table covers the whole occupation group. BLS publishes no separate wage figure for dialysis technicians.
BLS annual wages equal the hourly wage times 2,080 hours. That is 40 hours for 52 weeks. The comparison uses hourly pay so that part-time and long-shift schedules are judged fairly.
Dialysis Technician Pay Example: Long Days with Overtime
A certified technician earns a base rate of $23.50 an hour. He is scheduled for 36 regular hours a week and averages 4 overtime hours at time and a half. His clinic pays $1.00 an hour for his credential. A third of his hours earn a $1.50 early-shift differential. These are example figures, not typical rates. A hospital offers $25.00 an hour.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Base annual pay | 23.50 x 36 x 52 | $43,992.00 |
| Overtime | 4 x 23.50 x 1.5 x 52 | $7,332.00 |
| Certification pay | 1 x 36 x 52 | $1,872.00 |
| Shift differential | 1.50 x 33% x 36 x 52 | $926.64 |
| Annual gross pay | Base plus the three extras | $54,122.64 |
| BLS band | 23.50 is between 21.24 and 24.18 | 25th to 50th percentile |
| Approximate percentile | 25 + (23.50 - 21.24) / (24.18 - 21.24) x 25 | About the 44th |
| Second offer | 25 x 36 x 52 | $46,800.00, about the 53rd |
His extras add $10,130.64 a year. Overtime is the largest part. The hospital rate raises base pay by $2,808.00 a year and moves him above the group median of $24.18. The percentile ranks his base rate among all workers in the catch-all group, not among dialysis technicians.
Factors That Change Dialysis Technician Pay
Overtime Hours
Overtime changes yearly pay faster than any other field in this tool. One overtime hour a week at $23.50 and time and a half adds $1,833.00 a year. Enter the hours you are paid for, not the hours you are scheduled. The overtime pay calculator works on overtime alone.
Certification Pay
Some employers add a fixed amount per hour for a credential. One dollar an hour on 36 hours a week is $1,872.00 a year. No official source gives a standard amount, so the field takes your own figure.
Shift Differential
A differential applies only to some hours. The share field handles that. A $1.50 differential on a third of 36 weekly hours adds $926.64 a year.
Regular Hours and Weeks
A 36-hour week has 1,872 paid hours a year. A 40-hour week has 2,080. At the same rate the shorter week pays 10% less. The salary to hourly calculator shows that conversion on its own.
The Catch-All Group
Because 29-2099 mixes several jobs, its wage range is wide. The 10th percentile is $18.36 an hour and the 90th is $40.99. Read your percentile as a rough guide.
Dialysis Technician Pay Compared Across Industries
BLS compares pay by industry for the whole catch-all group. Hospitals employ 62,520 of its 182,610 workers. Outpatient care centers employ 50,750. Together that is 62.0% of the group.
| Industry | Jobs in the group | Share of the group |
|---|---|---|
| General Medical and Surgical Hospitals | 62,520 | 34.2% |
| Outpatient Care Centers | 50,750 | 27.8% |
| Offices of Physicians | 28,880 | 15.8% |
| Offices of Other Health Practitioners | 6,930 | 3.8% |
| Federal Executive Branch | 4,260 | 2.3% |

These counts cover every job in the group. BLS does not say how many of them are dialysis technicians.
Mean vs Median
The group mean is $28.23 an hour and the median is $24.18. The mean is $4.05 higher. A smaller number of high wages pulls the mean up, so the median is the better midpoint.
Hourly Rate vs Annual Pay
Two technicians on the same rate can earn very different yearly pay. Hours, overtime and extras explain the gap. Compare base rates first, then compare annual gross pay.
When to Use the Dialysis Technician Salary Calculator
Comparing a Clinic Offer with a Hospital Offer
Enter your current rate and extras. Type the other base rate as the second offer. The tool shows both percentiles and the yearly base difference.
Seeing What a Credential Adds
Type the certification pay your employer has quoted. The extra pay row shows its yearly value before tax.
Pricing an Extra Shift
Raise the overtime hours by the length of the shift and read the change in annual gross pay.
Planning a Budget
The result is gross pay. Read the gross vs net income guide before you plan spending from it. The salary calculator converts any pay figure without the BLS table.
Common Mistakes with Dialysis Technician Pay
1. Reading the BLS Figure as a Dialysis Wage
The median of $50,290 covers a catch-all group of 182,610 workers. BLS does not split out dialysis technicians.
2. Entering Overtime Pay Inside the Base Rate
BLS wages exclude overtime. A base rate inflated by overtime will show a percentile that is too high.
3. Counting Certification Pay Twice
If your quoted rate already includes the credential, leave the certification field blank.
4. Setting the Differential Share to 100
A differential that applies to one shift in three should have a share near 33. A blank share means every hour.
5. Using a Flat Percent for Certification
The old tool on this page added a fixed 12% for certification and set percents for shifts and states. No official source gives those percents. Use your own dollar rates.
Accuracy and Limitations
The conversion is exact arithmetic. The percentile is an estimate, because BLS publishes only five points of the wage distribution and the table covers a broader group than dialysis technicians.
What it calculates accurately
- Annual, monthly, biweekly, weekly and hourly gross pay from your own figures.
- The BLS percentile band your straight-time rate falls in, for the BLS group health technologists and technicians, all other.
- The dollar and percent gap to the BLS national median for that group.
- Overtime, certification pay and differential totals for the year, from your own rates.
What it does not account for
- Federal, state and local tax, or any payroll deduction.
- Your state, metro area, employer or years of experience.
- Benefits such as health insurance, retirement match and paid leave.
- A wage figure for dialysis technicians alone. BLS does not publish one.
- Wages after May 2025. BLS updates the survey once a year.
- Overtime based on a rate above base pay. Some employers add certification pay or a differential to the rate that overtime is based on.
BLS wages are straight-time gross pay. They exclude overtime pay, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. This tool keeps overtime, certification pay and differentials out of the comparison and shows them in the annual total.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dialysis Technician Salaries
How much do dialysis technicians make an hour?
BLS does not publish a wage for dialysis technicians alone. It counts them in the group health technologists and technicians, all other. That group had a median wage of $24.18 an hour in May 2025.
Why is there no BLS salary for dialysis technicians?
BLS surveys pay by occupation code, and dialysis technicians have no code of their own. The 2018 classification lists a dialysis technician as an example of code 29-2099, a catch-all for health technologists and technicians.
What is the annual pay range for the BLS group?
The 10th percentile annual wage for health technologists and technicians, all other, was $38,180 in May 2025. The median was $50,290 and the 90th percentile was $85,270.
