How to Use the CRNA Salary Calculator

  1. Choose hourly rate or annual salary, the way your employer states base pay.
  2. Enter your base pay, your hours per week and your weeks per year. Add other annual pay or a second offer if you have them.
  3. Read your annual gross pay, the pay-period amounts and where your hourly pay sits in the BLS wage table.

What each result tells you:

ResultWhat it means
Annual gross payBase pay for the year plus any other annual pay you entered, before tax.
Monthly, biweekly, weeklyAnnual gross pay divided by 12, 26 and 52.
HourlyBase pay per paid hour. This is the number compared with BLS.
BLS percentile bandThe two published BLS percentiles your hourly pay falls between.
Approximate hourly percentileA straight-line estimate between those two percentiles. BLS does not publish it. The verdict uses this number.
Annual base pay percentileThe same estimate for your yearly base pay against BLS annual wages, which assume 2,080 hours.
Gap to BLS medianYour hourly pay minus the BLS median hourly wage, in dollars and percent.
Full-time equivalentYour hourly pay times 2,080 hours, the work year BLS uses for annual wages.
Second offer rowsThe second offer as annual and hourly pay, its percentile and the yearly difference.

The first preset is an example, not a typical wage. It shows a CRNA paid $120 an hour for 40 hours and 52 weeks. That is $249,600 a year, about the 56th percentile.

What Is a CRNA Salary?

A CRNA salary is the gross pay a certified registered nurse anesthetist earns in a year, before tax and deductions. BLS counts CRNAs under occupation code 29-1151, Nurse Anesthetists.

BLS describes the work this way: nurse anesthetists administer anesthesia and provide care before, during and after surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic and obstetrical procedures. They also provide pain management and some emergency services.

These facts come from the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook and the OEWS wage survey, read on 2026-10-02.

Nurse anesthetists are the highest-paid of the three advanced practice nursing roles that BLS groups together. The group median is $134,920, and the nurse anesthetist median is $236,590.

This tool is for CRNAs and nurse anesthesia students who are checking an offer, a raise or a schedule. It is not a pay quote from any employer.

How Does the CRNA Salary Calculator Work?

The calculator converts your pay between time periods, then places your hourly pay in the BLS wage distribution for nurse anesthetists.

Formula: Annual pay = hourly rate x hours per week x weeks per year
Approximate percentile = P1 + (your hourly - W1) / (W2 - W1) x (P2 - P1)
  1. Convert. An hourly rate is multiplied by hours and weeks. A salary is divided by them to get pay per hour.
  2. Add other pay. Overtime, differentials and bonuses you typed are added to the annual total only.
  3. Find the band. Your base hourly pay is checked against the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile wages. Your annual base pay gets the same check against annual wages.
  4. Interpolate. W1 and W2 are the two BLS wages around your pay. P1 and P2 are their percentiles.
  5. Measure the gap. Your hourly pay minus the median, then divided by the median.

The table below is the full BLS wage table for nurse anesthetists that the tool uses.

BLS annual wages equal the hourly wage times 2,080 hours. That is 40 hours for 52 weeks. The comparison uses hourly pay so that part-time and long-shift schedules are judged fairly.

CRNA Salary Example: Three 12-Hour Shifts a Week

A CRNA in a hospital works three 12-hour shifts a week for 50 weeks, at a base rate of $118 an hour. Overtime and call pay add $22,000 over the year. Another hospital offers $130 an hour for the same shifts.

Her base rate is $4.25 above the median of $113.75, at about the 54th percentile. Her base pay for the year, $212,400, sits lower, at about the 30th percentile of annual wages. The cause is the schedule. She is paid for 1,800 hours, and BLS annual wages assume 2,080. Overtime and call pay lift her gross pay to $234,400, but BLS wages leave that premium pay out.

Factors That Change CRNA Pay

Shift Pattern

The shift pattern sets the paid hours behind an hourly rate. At $118 an hour, 36 hours for 50 weeks pays $212,400. Forty hours for 52 weeks pays $245,440.

Overtime, Call and Differentials

BLS wages are straight-time pay. They exclude overtime pay and shift differentials. Enter those in the other annual pay field. The overtime pay calculator prices extra hours at a premium rate.

Industry

Offices of physicians employ 50.7% of nurse anesthetists in the survey, and general hospitals employ 32.1%.

CRNA Pay vs Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner Pay

Nurse anesthetists earn far more than the other two advanced practice nursing roles. Their median of $236,590 is $104,290 above the nurse practitioner median and $102,550 above the nurse midwife median.

The gap holds at every point. The 10th percentile for nurse anesthetists, $155,250, is close to the 75th percentile for nurse practitioners, $156,700.

Physicians in the same operating rooms earn more. The BLS median for anesthesiologists was $391,490 in May 2025, which is $154,900 above the nurse anesthetist median.

Growth runs the other way. BLS projects 10% growth for nurse anesthetists from 2025 to 2035, 11% for nurse midwives and 41% for nurse practitioners.

When to Use the CRNA Salary Calculator

Turning an Hourly Rate into a Yearly Figure

Enter the rate with your real shifts and weeks. The annual result is what the rate pays on your schedule.

Turning a Salary into an Hourly Rate

Enter the salary and the hours you work. A $230,000 salary at 40 hours is $110.58 an hour, about the 44th percentile. The salary to hourly calculator does the conversion alone.

Comparing an Employed Offer with Contract Work

An employee rate and an independent contractor rate are not like for like. A contractor pays both halves of payroll tax and funds benefits. Estimate that tax with the self-employment tax calculator.

Budgeting from a New Offer

The result is gross pay. Read the gross vs net income guide before you plan spending from it.

Common Mistakes with CRNA Pay Comparisons

1. Multiplying Every Hourly Rate by 2,080

Three 12-hour shifts for 50 weeks is 1,800 paid hours, not 2,080. The difference at $118 an hour is $33,040 a year.

2. Counting Overtime as Base Pay

BLS wages exclude overtime and shift differentials. Adding them to base pay makes your rate look higher than the table it is judged against.

3. Comparing Contractor Rates with Employee Wages

The BLS survey covers employees. It leaves out self-employed nurse anesthetists, so a contractor rate has no match in the table.

4. Using the Mean as the Typical Wage

The mean is $248,320 and the median is $236,590. High earners pull the mean up by $11,730.

5. Treating the National Median as a Local Rate

The mean in Alaska is $311,110. This page has national percentiles only.

Accuracy and Limitations

The conversion is exact arithmetic. The percentile is an estimate, because BLS publishes only five points of the wage distribution.

What it calculates accurately

  • Annual, monthly, biweekly, weekly and hourly gross pay from your own figures.
  • The BLS percentile band your hourly pay falls in.
  • The dollar and percent gap to the BLS national median.
  • The yearly difference between two offers on the same schedule.
  • The approximate percentile of your annual base pay against BLS annual wages.

What it does not account for

  • Federal, state and local tax, or any payroll deduction.
  • Your state, metro area, employer, experience or subspecialty.
  • Benefits such as health insurance, retirement match and paid leave.
  • Wages after May 2025. BLS updates the survey once a year.
  • Pay of self-employed and independent contractor nurse anesthetists. BLS does not survey them.
  • Practice model. BLS reports one wage table for every nurse anesthetist.

BLS wages are straight-time gross pay. They exclude overtime pay, shift differentials and nonproduction bonuses. Keep those in the other annual pay field so the comparison stays like for like.

How We Calculate CRNA Pay and Percentiles

Method
Pay-period conversion from your inputs. Percentile band and linear interpolation against BLS OEWS national percentile wages.
BLS data
OEWS national estimates, May 2025, for 29-1151 Nurse Anesthetists. Read on 2026-10-02 in the BLS OEWS Profiles tool. The figures are fixed constants on this page.
Inputs used
Pay type, base pay, hours per week, weeks per year, other annual pay and an optional second offer.
Assumptions
A BLS work year is 2,080 hours. Wages are spread evenly between two published percentiles. Monthly is annual / 12, biweekly is annual / 26 and weekly is annual / 52.
Rounding
Money to the cent. Approximate percentile to a whole number. Gap percent to one decimal.
Edge cases
Pay below the 10th or above the 90th percentile gets a band but no percentile number. A percentile that BLS shows only as at or above its reporting limit is never filled in. Zero or negative pay, hours above 168 and weeks above 52 return an error.
Not included
Tax, cost of living, experience and specialty adjustments. No such multiplier is used.
